Louisiana state Governor John Bel Edwards declared a state of emergency as Tropical Storm Barry draws closer.
The storm will likely bring storm surge, hurricane-force winds and up to 15 inches of rain across Louisiana, and is predicted to make landfall sometime Saturday morning as a Category 1 Hurricane.
Louisiana DOT state permit office as well as other LA state offices will be closed Friday, July 12. It’s possible closures will continue into early next week.
Tropical storm watches are now in effect from the mouth of the Mississippi River to Morgan City, Louisiana. A storm surge watch is also in effect from the mouth of the Pearl River to Morgan City.
The state of emergency will last from July 10 to August 8, unless terminated sooner.
High water notifications are in place for Interstate 70, so truck drivers and dispatchers are urged to stay off roads. The Louisiana Traffic Map, includes closures and restrictions, including any specific to oversize load travel.
The National Weather Service issued a rare flash flood emergency for much of the New Orleans metro area Wednesday morning, July 10. With the widespread flooding, travel is not safe.
