The I-40 bridge, also known as the Hernando DeSoto “M” bridge, at the Tennessee/Arkansas border which crosses over the Mississippi River will be closed due to a crack in the structure.

The crack was discovered on Monday, May 10 after suffering collision damage.

The Tennessee DOT and Arkansas DOT share responsibility of the bridge and are working with contract crews to mitigate repairs. It is unknown at this time how long repairs will take to complete.

All traffic is being re-routed to I-55.

The TN DOT Bridge Inspection and Repair Office released a repair report and statement. The report notes repairs needed to beams and concrete. The bridge will be thoroughly inspected after repairs are completed, before it is reopened to travel.
